Please help the League raise some money and have some fun!

The continued success of Youth Baseball of Southwestern Colorado (YBSWC) over the years has been due in large part to the generosity of its volunteers and strong fundraising initiatives.

YBSWC is holding our 1st Annual Hit-a-Thon this year and it is our primary fundraising event. Uniforms, new equipment, new infield dirt, umpire fees, Little League fees, city field rental fees, and the cost of maintaining and improving the ALP Fields add up fast. The 300 ft perimeter fence that we were required to install this spring at ALP cost $7,000. To keep our registration fees down, it is extremely important that we all support the fundraiser.

The 2015 Hit-a-Thon is May 30th for Tee-ball, Machine Pitch, Minors and Juniors divisions.  Majors will have their Hit-a-Thon on June 1st after their games. The Hit-a-Thon will occur after each team’s game that day. If your team happens to be playing out of town or is not scheduled to play that day, we will assign a time for your team to hit. The Hit-a-Thon is similar to a walk-a-thon. Each player solicits sponsors who pledge to make a tax-deductible donation to YBSWC. Pledges can be based either on the total distance a player attains or a flat donation. Each player has the opportunity to hit the ball five times. The total distance of the five hits counts towards the player’s score.  This will be great fun for the kids and one of the highlights of their year.

No matter how much money children raise, we encourage everyone to participate and help!  Every team has an official Hit-a-Thon Parent. You will hear from her or him over the next few weeks about Hit-A-Thon updates and encouragement to raise money. Key dates and all other info you need to know is online at www.durangobaseball.org under the Hit-a-Thon link, which is located on the left side of the home page, under the Menu.

In the meantime, please begin thinking about how your child or team can raise money.  The event website has many details about utilizing direct appeal emails, Facebook, and in-person requests. Customize your player's own web page (each player has his/her own web page) and raise funds to benefit YBSWC.

Our goal is to raise $15,000. If each team raises $700, we will meet our goal and keep fees at a minimum and maintain our fields and facilities. Every team that reaches their goal will be entered into a drawing for a team party. Players and teams can also win prizes for both fundraising and batting distance. Details about prizes will be provided at a later date and on the website.

Also, the league and the hit-a-thon cannot exist without volunteers!  Ask your fundraising Team Parent about volunteer opportunities including setting up the event, keeping score for your team, and helping to obtain prizes from area businesses. Or reply to this email if you wish to help.

Have a great season and we thank you for supporting the Youth Baseball of Southwestern Colorado participants!

All donations to YBSWC are tax deductible.
